The aim of the course is to learn and consolidate the basic technical vocabulary in the field of mechanical engineering and - application-oriented - grammatical structures. Furthermore, the receptive linguistic skills of listening and reading comprehension are trained. Participants should be enabled to follow first lectures in English in the field of mechanical engineering and to understand English-language technical literature. Strategies will be presented and practiced.
What do you learn in this course?
After completing the course “Technical English. Mechanical Engineering”
- you will be able to recognize, understand and apply the most common technical vocabulary in your field of study.
- you will be able to recognize and apply appropriate context-specific structures
- you will be able to apply strategies that help you understand and follow lectures and other longer contributions in your field of study

Tom
Hello, I am a natural born English speaker from the United States of America. I graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering (U.S.A.) with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. I completed an exchange program with the Fachhochschule Lübeck during my undergraduate. I then completed my bachelor’s thesis in the U.S. and received a German bachelor’s degree as well. I am currently studying for my master’s degree in mechanical engineering, with a focus on materials, abroad in Germany.
Paula
Paula is 22 years old. She was born in Hildesheim, Germany, and went to school in Bremen. Paula moved to Lübeck to study. Now she is doing her Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering. She is in her third year. She is particularly fond of material sciences and mechanics of solids. Since all course content is taught in English, Paula has to take a course in Technical English. She does this together with you. Right now. Stay in touch with Paula!
Paul
Paul is a fellow student of Paula. He also studies Mechanical Engineering. Just like Paula, he came to Lübeck three years ago to study. Together they spend a lot of time learning the subject matter, preparing for exams and - in this course - learning English together. As you can see, Paul is also involved in this course. With you. We're ready to go!

sehr gut
immer wieder technische Probleme auf einigen Seiten
Awesome !!! Very good material, very clear and easy to follow. I recommend to all those ones who work in the engineering areas.
